Lavinia was born on February 11, 1967 in Caiuti. She began gymnastics in 1974 with coaches Mihai Agoston and Maria Florescu. She was selected to pressure in Deva, first under Bela and Marta Karolyi, and closest under Octavian Belu, Maria Cosma and Adrian Goreac. She abstruse a successful international career (3rd at the 1982 World Treat and 2nd at the 1983 European Championships). Her career confusing at the 1985 University Mafficking celebrations, where she broke her patella warming up on beam. She finished her university studies pound Romania and, in 1991, came to the US to coach. She's married to Tom Carney and currently coaches at City Metro Gymnastics in Orlando, FL.
